BONUS FILM #4: Weekend (2011)

I decided to watch this totally spur of the moment. It popped up on my dash and I was curious, so I looked it up and started watching. I am so glad I did.

The movie follows three days of a man named Russell’s life, where he meets a man named Glen at a gay bar and brings him home. It’s hard to explain without giving much away, but it follows their short relationship from one night stand to a bit more. I want to say the plot’s a bit difficult to follow and the movie seems to move very quickly, but the series of events happen in a very short time span. It does a very good job of showing three days in an hour and a half without showing all the unnecessary crap that happens on a day to day basis. There are many parts with little to no dialogue but the brilliant acting shows so much, the entire movie would be amazing without any dialogue.

I’m not going to lie, I cried through probably half of the movie. I cry in just about every movie I watch but what surprised me was the amount of time I spent absolutely sobbing, not just getting teary eyed. To give you an idea: the movie is 96 minutes long and I started crying at 40, not stopping until I opened the word document to write this review. Maybe it was because it was so relateable to recent events that have happened in my life, but I think it’s because it’s such a revealing film. The characters bear everything, every little emotion, every feeling they’re going through, and it really tugs at your heartstrings. It’s one of those movies that makes you want to fall deeply in love with someone and have to fight for them to stick around.

All in all, this has definitely taken the cake for my new favorite movie. It’s beautifully done on such a low budget (according to imdb, about£120,000) and tells a really interesting story. The nudity isn’t distasteful, and the sex scenes aren’t too bad, although I’d advise not watching it or recommending it to people who are uncomfortable with male on male scenes. The length isn’t bad either, and I found myself upset at the fact that it was only about an hour and a half long.

Watch it. Drop everything and watch it.

You look like you want to kiss me.

I do.

Go on then.

I’m not dead!

It’s been awhile since anything’s been posted, I know, but I’m almost done the semester and I’ll have plenty of summer to be watching movies and catching up.

If anyone would like to help watch movies and write reviews, it’d be a ton of help! Just let me know through a message!

eta: actually started watching a movie as soon as I posted this…
